Choice. Chance. Change.

You must make the choice, to take the chance if you want anything to change.
We were recently blessed, with an opportunity that not everyone gets, to move onto family land and create the life we have only dreamed of. It had been a retirement dream of ours and something that we would often chat about when thinking of the future. When the opportunity came up, we spent some time crunching numbers and thinking about logistics. It just made sense. We talked to the kids about the opportunity, and they were as excited as we were. So… we did it!
We traded the hustle and bustle of city life and moved to the country.

When you decide to make this type of decision, the first thing you MUST do is get rid of all the stuff. We accumulate so many items over our lifetimes. I can say, or rather I know, that I am most guilty of it in this family. I attach the memories to the items. I don’t know when I started but I know it’s definitely been most of my life. With that said, I embarked on a month-long journey of getting rid of stuff. The hardest things to part with for me were shoes and clothes. Oh, and let’s not forget Christmas decorations. I just love Christmas and I have collected so much. We did end up holding on to all the Christmas decorations for now, but I am sure after this Christmas we will re-evaluate.
Moving in August, in Texas, is a 10/10 WOULD NOT RECOMMEND! It was so hot, and we moved ourselves. I think the heat index was around 111 degrees most of the move. We put most of our belongings into a storage unit down the road. We moved into a temporary camper so that we were ready for back to school. We got settled enough to enjoy the back-to-school festivities.
Speaking of school, it was a bit of a culture shock for the boys. They went from a large ISD, student population of 22,673, to an ISD that proudly boasts about its student population of 368 students. As a parent of two students with a 504 plan, (for those that don’t know, 504 plans are formal plans that schools develop to give kids with disabilities the support they need) this was great news. Smaller schools mean smaller class sizes, which in turn means more individualized attention. They started last Wednesday and have been all smiles every day and talking about their new teachers and new friends. Michael, high school senior, even got a girlfriend. The bus picks them up and drops them off at the driveway. The dogs and I are super excited when they return home.
We had the opportunity to look at many campers and on the first day of school, we purchased one. It has everything that we need, including two bathrooms!! That is a big thing with all of us. We are still working on making it our own. We grab a little from storage or run to the store when needed but we have a fridge, oh wait, two fridges, full of healthy foods, beds with new sheets and pillows, a giant couch to sit and enjoy time together on and a very good AC. Here is a glimpse inside, before we started bringing all of our stuff in.
The camper!
Property clearing for the new camper location is almost complete and they’ve started the planning for the cabin that we are building. For those who are curious, we currently have and will continue to have running water, electricity and even sewer drainage. I will post more pics of the inside once we have it completely set up. I am waiting on some furniture pieces to be delivered.
I am excited to keep you updated on our progress. There is a lot of work ahead of us, but it will be so rewarding and fun along the way.
Oh, and let us not forget that we have a wedding to finish preparing for that will be on November 11th. I need to get to work.
